Apple opens claims in $250 million settlement over AI Siri delay
US owners of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 have until 21 December to file, with an estimated $25 per device.
Apple is taking claims in a $250 million settlement over its failure to ship an AI-upgraded Siri alongside the iPhone 16, The Verge reported on Monday. US buyers of the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or any iPhone 16 model qualify.
The purchase must fall between 10 June 2024 and 29 March 2025, and claims close on 21 December 2026, according to The Verge. Payouts are estimated at $25 per eligible device. The settlement website says that figure could rise to $95 depending on how many people file.
The class action alleged Apple created a clear and reasonable consumer expectation that AI features previewed at WWDC 2024 would arrive with the iPhone 16. The phone shipped with a narrower set of capabilities while carrying the label built for Apple Intelligence, the complaint said.
Apple has denied any wrongdoing. The company later delayed the AI-upgraded Siri, which arrived with iOS 27 earlier this month, according to The Verge. MacRumors reported the opening of claims first, The Verge said. Filing requires a name, contact details and an iPhone serial number.
