Bessent emerges as frontrunner for Trump AI czar role, Semafor says
Three market news accounts relayed the report within three minutes of each other, and no other outlet has matched it or named a rival candidate.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has emerged as the frontrunner for a new AI czar role in the Trump administration, Semafor reported on Tuesday. The report reached the wire through three market news accounts, each crediting Semafor and none adding reporting of its own.
zerohedge posted it at 17:57 UTC, financialjuice at 17:58 and FirstSquawk at 17:59. The three postings carry the same single line. No wire service carried the story in the hours that followed, and the White House has not commented.
The story rests on one outlet. Semafor's own account of who is being considered, and by whom, is not visible in any of the three relays, and none of them says Trump has made the appointment.
Nobody has described the role publicly. Trump used his address to the United Nations on Tuesday to say the United States would refer to AI as super intelligence, but he did not announce an appointment.
