Choblin29 reported separately that the mechanism would be put to Presidents Trump and Xi to consider. Neither account said how an incident would be defined, or what either side would be required to disclose once one was reported.
Neither the US Treasury nor Chinese officials have confirmed the proposal. It follows a broader round of talks this week between Bessent and Chinese counterparts that reportedly also touched on trade and critical minerals ahead of Xi's visit to the US.
