China probes DeepSeek and Moonshot over Anthropic data, The Information says
Anthropic alleged that the two companies routed customer requests to Claude, according to summaries of the report posted on X on Tuesday.
China's Cyberspace Administration is investigating DeepSeek and Moonshot AI over customer data the two are alleged to have routed to Anthropic, The Information reported on Tuesday. Six accounts on X carried the report within an hour, and none of them reported a response from either company.
Techmeme, citing The Information, said the regulator has questioned employees at the two companies. The account kyleichan quoted the report as saying the regulator summoned representatives of seven companies named by Anthropic for questioning, then narrowed its attention to DeepSeek and Moonshot. The article itself is behind a subscription.
The account wallstengine, summarising the same report, put Moonshot's total at more than 23 million exchanges routed to Claude between May and July, and DeepSeek's at more than 12.1 million over 14 days in July. This paper could not check either figure against the article.
The data allegedly included surveillance footage near facilities linked to the People's Liberation Army, along with internal Chinese corporate information, wallstengine said. That detail rests on one outlet and on one account's summary of it.
Anthropic's allegation is its own, and what the regulator makes of it is a separate question. Four other accounts carried the investigation without adding detail beyond the headline. None said what the regulator may do next, and none reported a comment from Anthropic.
