Akamai hands Anthropic a warrant for 5% of itself
Anthropic committed $11.6 billion over seven years for Akamai cloud capacity, and took a warrant over 7.7 million Akamai shares in return.
Anthropic has committed to spend $11.6 billion with Akamai over seven years, and holds in return a warrant over 7.7 million Akamai shares, about 5% of the company, at an exercise price of $111.33. Akamai set out the terms in a filing on Thursday.
About 2% of that vests on announcement, according to the filing, with roughly a further 1% for each additional $3 billion of services, up to about 3% more. The agreement could expand by $9 billion, which would take the total commitment towards $20 billion.
Akamai put the capital expenditure behind the $11.6 billion commitment at about $5.5 billion, and said it would raise 2026 capital spending by roughly $1.7 billion to pre-purchase components, memory among them. It said the agreement does not change its 2026 revenue guidance.
"Anthropic is advancing the AI revolution and we are thrilled they chose Akamai's capabilities for building and operating AI infrastructure at scale," said Tom Leighton, Akamai's co-founder and chief executive. Akamai shares rose about 16% in extended trading, according to Reuters, which reported the warrant is a first for the company.
