Amazon to spend $100 million on Indiana robot‑making plant

Amazon said it will invest more than $100 million in a 585,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Greenwood, Indiana, which is expected to open by 2028. The company said the site will create 300 skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs paying an average of nearly $100,000 a year.
The plant will make products for Amazon's fulfilment and robotics network across North America, Amazon said, with fabrication, robotic welding, automated powder coating and assembly under one roof. The company said operations will use AWS and what it calls AI-powered smart manufacturing systems and robotics.
The Wall Street Journal reported the investment on Thursday. Amazon's own release does not say how many robot plants it runs. The company said only that it operates one of the world's largest industrial robotics manufacturing operations, and that it has built more than a million robots in the United States.
The roles listed include CNC operators, welders, powder coating technicians, assemblers, manufacturing engineers, quality assurance specialists, controls engineers and program managers. Amazon said it has invested $40 billion in Indiana since 2008 and created 27,000 direct jobs in the state.
Amazon put its United States investment in goods and equipment at more than $230 billion since 2010, supporting more than 100,000 manufacturing jobs. Those are the company's own figures. Amazon did not say which robots the Greenwood plant will build, or how many it expects to make there.
