Anthropic filing shows Broadcom will lend up to $42 billion

Anthropic's IPO prospectus says Broadcom agreed to lend up to $42 billion by convertible note to help pay for a $125.2 billion, five-year TPU lease, Reuters reports.

Broadcom has agreed to lend Anthropic up to $42 billion through a convertible note, according to Anthropic's IPO prospectus as reported by Reuters. The money could help finance a five-year, $125.2 billion commitment to lease tensor processing unit capacity, the filing says. Anthropic had not commented on the report in anything we read.

Accounts of the filing add that the notes could convert into Anthropic equity and would cover roughly a third of the lease commitment. Broadcom designs Google's TPUs, and reports say Anthropic is expected to become Broadcom's largest compute customer in 2027. Those details come from summaries of the Reuters story, not from the filing itself.

Separately, Bloomberg reported, citing unnamed sources, that Anthropic could start formal marketing for its IPO as soon as the week of 9 November. That would put the company in line to begin trading before Thanksgiving. Bloomberg's sourcing is anonymous, and Anthropic has not announced a timetable in anything we read.

Yahoo Finance framed the loan as circular financing: a supplier lends money to a customer that spends it on the supplier's chips. Reports on the filing say it flags potential conflicts of interest because Broadcom would be Anthropic's chip supplier, lessor and lender at once. The prospectus itself is not yet something we have read.
