Developers say OpenAI cut ChatGPT limits ahead of $500 tier
TestingCatalog put the coming Pro Max plan at $500 a month and said it will likely run on Cerebras hardware, which OpenAI has not confirmed.
A complaint that OpenAI has been cutting ChatGPT usage limits ahead of a $500 plan drew 838 likes and about 66,000 views overnight, hours after TestingCatalog put a price on the plan. OpenAI has not announced the plan.
Jun Song, who posts as jun_song, wrote that a $200 tier now fails after one day of real work and that the $20 tier is a free trial. He called the arrangement "a pricing scam built on opaque subscription limits", and asked for consumer protection for AI subscriptions.
TestingCatalog said on Thursday evening that the plan will cost $500 a month, and that it will likely be powered by Cerebras infrastructure. It said the only changes in the plan description against ChatGPT Pro so far are "Fastest Work and Codex".
The claims about limits rest on users' accounts of their own usage, and OpenAI has published no change. TestingCatalog reports from strings and references it finds in shipped code, and its reporting on unreleased features is not confirmed by the company.
Another developer, who posts as TokenGremlin, wrote that if OpenAI makes cheaper tiers worse while launching an expensive one, the answer is to leave. That post had 944 likes. The account kimmonismus said the $500 price is known but the rates are not.
