ChatGPT adds virtual try‑on, built on its Images 2.5 model

OpenAI is rolling out a Try On button in ChatGPT shopping results that puts clothes on a user's own selfie or full-body photo, TechCrunch reported.

OpenAI launched two shopping features in ChatGPT on 1 October: virtual try-on for clothing and accessories, and a Favorites list that saves products to a user's Library, TechCrunch reported. The outlet said the features arrive globally. OpenAI had not published its own announcement that we could find, so details here rest on TechCrunch's account.

Users upload a selfie or a full-body photo, then press a Try On button that appears in shopping results, according to TechCrunch. They can also upload a picture of an item and ask ChatGPT to show it on them. The report said the feature runs on a new model called ChatGPT Images 2.5, which OpenAI credits with better image quality.

Favorites keeps the saved products in the app next to the try-on images, TechCrunch said. Users can also describe a style and ask ChatGPT to shop for it, or upload a photo of a celebrity outfit and ask for items that can be bought. TechCrunch did not say which retailers feed the results.

TechCrunch framed the launch as a follow-up to OpenAI's instant checkout feature, which it described as unsuccessful, and noted that Google launched its own virtual try-on in 2025. We have not tested the feature and OpenAI's claims about image quality have not been checked independently.
