Anthropic makes Claude for Government generally available to US agencies
Anthropic says federal and state agencies can now buy Claude through a FedRAMP High environment with no seat fees, a hard spending cap and no cloud-provider contract.
Anthropic said on 30 September that Claude for Government is now generally available to federal and state agencies. In its announcement the company describes the product as Claude's coding and agentic capabilities delivered through a FedRAMP High authorized environment. Agencies do not need a separate cloud-provider relationship to use it, Anthropic says.
Pricing is usage-based, according to the post. Agencies pay in fixed increments against a hard spending cap, with no seat fees. Anthropic says departments can divide prepaid usage among themselves, track spend by user and by model, and set rate limits and dollar caps for different tiers of staff.
The company lists several security controls: audit logs for administrative actions, two-person approval for sensitive operations on Anthropic's side, and single sign-on with an agency's own identity provider. Usage exports carry metering data only, Anthropic says, and conversation history stays on devices the agency manages. These are the company's descriptions, and the post does not name an outside auditor's findings.
Two pieces are not yet general. The Claude Code command-line tool and Claude for Microsoft 365 are in early access, Anthropic says, and carry the same administrative controls. Agencies can request access through the company's government page. The post does not name any customers or say how many agencies have signed up, and no independent party has tested the claims.
