Epson adds force‑limited cobot with 900mm reach to robot line
Epson says the AX6 can work next to people without safety fencing after a risk assessment, and that it carries a 6kg payload.
Epson Robots said on Thursday that it had added the AX6 collaborative robot to its six-axis line. The arm has a 900mm reach, a maximum payload of 6kg and an RC-A1010 controller, according to The Robot Report.
The company said the AX6 is power- and force-limited, and that with a proper risk assessment it can run alongside people without traditional safety barriers. Rick Brookshire, Epson's director for product and robot development, said cobots had lowered the barriers to entry for new robot users.
Epson said the arm runs no-code software on an Ethernet-enabled controller that is reachable through a web browser, so most industrial tablets can serve as a teach pendant. James Shimano, a product manager at Epson, told The Robot Report that the software also exposes a Python environment.
The arm's structure is carbon fibre, and Shimano said the lightweight design was built with mobile robot integration in mind. Epson said the AX6 meets ISO Class 5 cleanroom standards, and that life science customers had asked about it for sensor sampling work.
Epson said it has sold more than 250,000 robots worldwide as of April 2026, and says it is the global leader in SCARA robots. The figure is its own. The AX6 is available now through Epson's distributor partners.
