Prosecutors play Caleb Flynn's AI love song at murder trial
404 Media reports the former American Idol contestant used ElevenLabs to make the song for his mistress before his wife's killing.
Prosecutors in the murder trial of former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn played an AI-generated love song he made for his mistress, 404 Media reported.
Flynn used voice-generation software from ElevenLabs to add AI vocals to piano recordings, according to text messages shown at trial. "Do you want to hear the song I wrote for you with an AI voiceover," he wrote to his mistress. He added that he had "loaded the song on piano and sent it with my computer microphone."
Forensic investigator Joseph Wilhelm testified that Flynn made two versions in different keys. "One's like a happy or upbeat sad song if that makes any sense, and one's a sad, sad song," Wilhelm told the court, according to 404 Media. The outlet described the playback as producing visible discomfort among observers in the room.
Investigators used forensic tool Graykey's Magnet software to pull the audio files from Flynn's phone, 404 Media reported. They also recovered text messages, location history and data from a wearable device. The extraction turned up evidence that Flynn had deleted an AI music generator app before his wife's killing, according to the outlet.
