Google tests Gemini feature that calls businesses for you
The Pixel 11 beta feature dials restaurants and other businesses on a user's behalf, reads back a live transcript and lets people jump in anytime.
Google has begun testing a Gemini feature called Call for Me that phones businesses on a user's behalf to make reservations or check availability, the company said.
The feature is limited to Pixel 11 owners in the US with a paid Gemini subscription and the beta version of Google's Phone app, according to The Decoder. Gemini can navigate phone menus and sit through hold times. It dials from the user's own number and shows a live transcript the person can interrupt at any point.
Google said Gemini can pass along personal information users have approved for a call. The company said it is "starting small because real conversations involve a lot of nuance." It has not said when Call for Me might expand beyond the current test group.
The feature revives an idea Google first showed years ago with Duplex. It arrives as rivals build similar tools: Meta's Muse and Instinct agents can already place calls for users, The Decoder reported.
