Instagram adds an AI assistant to Edits that reads your video metrics

Meta says the chatbot in its CapCut rival analyses follows, views, retention, likes and shares, and leaves creative calls to the creator. Basic use is included.

Instagram launched an AI assistant inside Edits, its video-editing app and CapCut competitor, on Wednesday, TechCrunch reported. The conversational tool looks at an account's performance data, including follows, views, retention, likes and shares, and gives creators personalised feedback. TechCrunch is the only outlet the paper has seen on it, and Meta's own post was not read.

TechCrunch said the assistant also monitors comments and trending content to surface insights. Brett Westervelt, who leads Edits, said: "The creative calls are still yours." TechCrunch framed that as the point, since the tool analyses patterns across a creator's videos and does not make editing decisions for them.

Basic access is included, TechCrunch said, and creators can unlock more usage with a Meta One subscription. The report did not give usage limits or a price for the subscription. Meta first previewed the tool in June at an invite-only creator event and, according to TechCrunch, worked with creators while building it.

TechCrunch noted that YouTube announced a similar conversational tool last week, though YouTube's version focuses on helping with the editing itself instead of analytics. Whether creators find Instagram's feedback useful is not yet known, and no independent tests have been published.
