Meta's Muse Charm greets nearby Charms and carries a 5G modem
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that two of the palm-sized devices recognise each other when their owners come close, and that their agents then interact.
Two Meta Muse Charms will recognise each other and let their agents interact when their owners are close together, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported. Meta teased the device at its Connect keynote in Menlo Park on Wednesday without describing that behaviour on stage.
The Charm is a palm-sized gadget with a roughly two-inch display, an onboard 5G modem and its own operating system, Gizmochina said, citing Gurman. The modem lets it reach Muse away from Wi-Fi. Gizmochina also listed front and back cameras, a fingerprint sensor, a speaker, a microphone and a USB-C port.
Meta has not announced a price. Mark Zuckerberg said the device should arrive in time for the December holidays, and described it as a quick way to reach Muse without putting on a pair of smart glasses. Gizmochina reported that he moved the timeline forward from 2027.
Meta's chief technology officer, Andrew Bosworth, called the Charm an exploration and said it is not the core of the company's AI hardware strategy, The Decoder reported from Connect. That is a lower claim for the device than the keynote made for it.
Nobody outside Meta has used a Charm. The interaction between two devices, the 5G modem and the December date all rest on Gurman's reporting and on what Meta said on stage. Meta has not published a price or battery figures, and the ship date could still move.
