Meta open‑sources Muse Gadgets firmware and gives away 5,000 Home Link devices

Meta's Alexandr Wang says Muse Gadgets, an open-source ESP32 firmware and Linux SDK, lets anyone build hardware for its Muse agent, and 5,000 Home Link devices are free to subscribers.

Alexandr Wang, who works at Meta on its Muse assistant, announced Muse Gadgets on X on Friday. He described it as an open-source ESP32 firmware and Linux SDK for anyone to make hardware that works with Muse. Meta is also releasing its own gadget, Muse Home Link, so Muse can reach smart devices such as TVs and speakers.

Wang said Meta made a batch of 5,000 Home Link units, which he called ready to ship in a few weeks and free for Muse subscribers while supplies last. TestingCatalog, which reported the launch, quotes Meta's page as saying the device is free with an active Muse subscription in the United States only.

Meta's description, as quoted by TestingCatalog, says users connect Muse to home Wi-Fi so it can reach compatible devices they own. It can also reach anything they build with a local HTTP API. Community-built skills could let Muse switch on a light, control a TV or send a document to a printer, depending on setup.

Asked why Meta is open-sourcing the firmware, Wang wrote that building gadgets is fun and that Meta wants builders to explore new kinds of gadgets. We have not tested the SDK or a Home Link unit. Meta has not said how many third-party gadgets exist, so the wider hardware plan remains an aim, not a result.
