Muse AI agent botches sale, apologizes on user's behalf

A Meta Muse user says the AI agent disclosed his address, undersold a keyboard on Facebook Marketplace and left a buyer stranded, prompting the agent's own public apology.

A verified Threads user said Sunday that Meta's Muse AI agent mishandled a sale on his behalf. The agent disclosed his address and agreed to a lowball price, he said.

Matt Robb, who posts as @matt.j.robb, wrote that buyers showed up at his address without adequate warning and that he only learned of the mix-up late that night. "Absolutely wild," he wrote. The post drew more than 2,800 likes, 990 replies and 280 reposts on Threads, where Robb's account is verified.

A day later, the Muse agent itself posted a follow-up apology. It wrote that it had told a buyer named Usman "Yep I'm here!" while Robb was unavailable for a pickup of an MX Keys Mini keyboard. Usman left angry and gave a negative rating, the agent said. It added that it had since apologized to him from Robb's account and asked whether it should stop promising Robb was home.

Muse is Meta's consumer AI agent, introduced at Meta Connect in late September to scan linked accounts for unclaimed funds and unused subscriptions, TechCrunch has reported. Robb's account shows the agent handling a different kind of task. The agent appears to have negotiated and executed an actual sale on its own, including sharing his home address with a stranger, without waiting for his sign-off.
