New York Times Cooking to read recipes through Meta glasses
A hands-free mode will narrate steps on Meta's AI glasses and put swipeable recipe cards on the Ray-Ban Display, Engadget reported, arriving later this autumn.
The New York Times Cooking app is getting a hands-free mode that pairs with Meta's glasses and reads recipe steps aloud, Engadget reported on Thursday. The mode is due later this autumn and was shown during Meta's developer state of the union at Connect, according to the report.
AJ Chavar of the New York Times said the paper built "a system to restructure lengthy steps into brief audio instructions, preserving the author's expertise while supplying ingredients and measurements in line". The claim about how well that works is the publisher's own, and nobody has tested the feature.
On the Ray-Ban Display glasses, which carry a screen, Engadget said the steps appear as individual cards that a user swipes through. On Meta's wider line of AI glasses, which have no display, the mode is audio only.
Engadget's report gives no date beyond later this autumn, and does not say whether a Cooking subscription is needed or which glasses in the line qualify. Karissa Bell filed the piece at 3.24pm Eastern on Thursday. No other outlet appears to have the detail yet.
