OpenAI's annualized revenue nears $70 billion, Axios reports

OpenAI's annualized revenue is nearing $70 billion, Axios reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter. Bloomberg, which relayed the report, said the figure is based on the company's current performance. OpenAI has not published the number, and neither outlet says the company confirmed it.
Axios says the run rate has grown by more than 70% since the start of the third quarter. Business-to-business revenue has grown by more than 100% over the same period, according to the report. On the consumer side, OpenAI added more revenue this quarter than it added during all of 2025, Axios says.
The jump is steep against earlier reporting. Bloomberg News reported in August that OpenAI was on pace for more than $40 billion in annualized revenue, according to the Axios coverage. If the new figure holds, the run rate would have climbed by roughly $30 billion in about a month.
A run rate takes a recent pace of sales and multiplies it out over a year, so it is not revenue collected. Commentator kimmonismus, writing on X, compared the figure with Anthropic's reported expectation of more than $100 billion in annualized revenue this year, though the two figures cover different dates.
Nothing in the reporting describes OpenAI's costs, so it is not known how much of the growth survives compute and cloud bills. The timing is notable, since OpenAI's annual DevDay keynote was due to start in San Francisco later on Tuesday and Anthropic has an IPO filing under way.
