SpaceX details $90 billion AI hub buildout in Memphis
A new project website lays out Colossus 2's grid battery, water plant and substations, including what SpaceX calls the largest grid-connected battery pack in the US.
SpaceX's AI division published a new website detailing its Colossus 2 training cluster in Tennessee and Mississippi. The site says the company has invested more than $90 billion in the region since 2024, according to the X account SawyerMerritt, which linked to it. The company said the buildout supports 7,500 local jobs.

The site says Tesla Megapacks will supply Colossus 2 with 3.3 gigawatt-hours of storage, enough to power Memphis for two hours. The company calls it the largest grid-connected battery pack in the US. SpaceX also said it is spending $360 million on a water-recycling plant meant to process up to 10 million gallons of wastewater a day.
The company said it is paying for two new substations, worth $35 million and $20 million, at no cost to the local utility or homeowners. It is also funding sound walls and quieter turbines around the site. Under an order with Mississippi's environmental regulator, it must remove all temporary generators by July 2027, and says it is already ahead of that schedule.
None of the figures have been independently verified. SpaceX did not publish them through its own account. They were relayed secondhand by a single X account that linked to the new site.
