Sean Parker says Stability AI is rebuilding around music tools for professionals

Parker says he is "playing by the rules this time", TechCrunch reports, as Stability AI ships three audio models and music-editing software after $76 million from Sony, Warner and Universal.

Sean Parker, the Napster co-founder, says Stability AI is being rebuilt around music, TechCrunch reported on 2 October. Parker joined the company's $80 million rescue two years ago. Prem Akkaraju is chief executive. TechCrunch is the only outlet this paper found carrying the account, and the details below come from its report.

Parker contrasted the approach with his Napster days, saying he is "playing by the rules this time", per TechCrunch. In August 2026 Stability announced $76 million in new funding from Sony, Warner and Universal. TechCrunch says the major labels licensed their catalogs for training as part of the funding agreement.

Stability has released three new audio models and launched AI music-editing software, according to the report. The technology can generate instrumental tracks or short snippets from text prompts. TechCrunch's account does not name the models, give their sizes or say where they can be downloaded.

A coming feature would let users hum a melody or beatbox a drum pattern to steer generation, TechCrunch reports. Parker's stated goal is to make Stability the main AI toolmaker for music professionals. That ambition is his own, and the report offers no usage figures or release date for the humming feature.
