Georgia Power signs Google deal to add 96 MW of nuclear capacity
Reuters' legal account said the agreement covers upgrades at two plants, and two other accounts named Vogtle and Hatch and cited a $900 million projection.
Georgia Power, a unit of Southern Company, said on Monday it had signed an agreement with Google to support upgrades at two of its nuclear plants. The upgrades could add about 96 megawatts of capacity, the Reuters legal account reported.
Two other accounts named the plants. StockSavvyShay said Google is paying to expand nuclear capacity at Vogtle and Hatch, and said Georgia Power projects about $900 million in lifetime customer benefits. The Polymarket Money account gave the same two figures.
The $900 million is the utility's own projection rather than an audited figure, and the accounts carrying it do not say over what period it runs. The Reuters account does not mention the number at all.
StockSavvyShay described the structure as hyperscalers starting to fund the power they need themselves. That is the account's reading rather than a statement from either company. Neither Google nor Georgia Power is quoted here on cost, on timing, or on which reactors the work covers.
