Meta prices VR Glasses at $1,300, says they weigh 100 grams
The tethered device ships in spring 2027 and runs from a puck that clips to a pocket, according to Meta and UploadVR.
Meta said it will sell a pair of VR Glasses for $1,299.99 from spring 2027, a device the company puts at about 100 grams. The glasses have no compute of their own and run from a puck on a cable.
UploadVR, which tried the glasses at Meta's Connect conference on Wednesday, put the displays at 2,412 by 2,288 pixels an eye, running at 120Hz. The field of view is 70 degrees horizontally and 66 vertically, UploadVR said. Meta describes the same panels as a 5K display at 37 pixels per degree.
A fibre-optic cable runs from the glasses to a puck that holds the compute and the battery, and clips to a pocket or bag, Meta said. The chip is Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite, with 12GB of memory, according to UploadVR, which put storage at 128GB. Meta put battery life at up to three hours of high-resolution playback.
Meta said the glasses are five times lighter than Quest 3, and the first VR device certified under IMAX Enhanced. It named Disney+, Prime Video, HBO Max and ESPN among launch partners. More than 100 live sports events a year would stream in 8K, Meta said. Those are Meta's own figures, and no one has tested the hardware outside its demonstrations.
Meta has not said which countries will get the glasses first, or what the Touch Plus controllers will cost. Controllers are sold separately, UploadVR said, and a Quest 3 pair will work. Reviewers at Connect wore demonstration units rather than shipping hardware, so comfort over a long session could differ on the units Meta sells.
