Microsoft doubles Taiwan AI data centre plan to 4 sites, manager says

Microsoft will expand its AI data centres in Taiwan from two sites to four, the general manager of Taiwan Microsoft, Bian Zhixiang, said in remarks reported on Tuesday by Economic Daily News. The account dnystedt, relaying the report on X, said the two new sites will be in Gueishan and Luzhu in northern Taiwan.
Bian put the shortage of computing capacity at two to three years, and said semiconductor and high-technology companies are Microsoft's largest customers in Taiwan. He said the company cannot spare capacity for third parties, and is prioritising its own AI services to raise supply and cut running costs.
On Microsoft's in-house chips, Bian said design and capacity were proceeding smoothly, with mass production expected in 2027. The assessment is Microsoft's own, offered by its Taiwan manager. Microsoft has not published a production schedule for the parts.
Outside reports cited by the newspaper put the Maia 300 chip as arriving later this year, with talks under way with TSMC for capacity above 300,000 units and delivery targeted for 2027. The report does not attribute those figures to either company. The story rests on one newspaper, and no second outlet has carried the same detail.
