OpenAI names outside advisory group on mathematics results
The company said an independent group of mathematicians will guide how it reviews and communicates new mathematical results produced by its models.
OpenAI said on Monday it is working with an independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence, which it said will help it share advances in AI and mathematics responsibly. The company announced the group on its own site and on X.
The group will advise on how OpenAI assesses and communicates new mathematical results, upholds academic and professional standards, and builds tools that support mathematical research and learning, the company said. OpenAI said it wants mathematicians "at the center of shaping how AI supports mathematical understanding".
Two accounts tied the announcement to claims about OpenAI's own results. Polymarket said the group follows OpenAI's AI solving more than 100 open problems, "drawing concerns from mathematicians". The account choblin29 said OpenAI put the work on an internal model it began training 24 days ago.
Neither figure appears in OpenAI's own announcement, which names no model and gives no problem count. The claims rest on those two accounts, and nothing else in Monday's sources confirms them. OpenAI did not say who sits on the group or when it starts work.
