Samsung says it validated 16GB LPDDR6 on Qualcomm's next flagship chip

Samsung has validated a 16-gigabyte LPDDR6 memory package running at 10.7 gigabits per second on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, Seoul Economic Daily reported on Wednesday, citing industry sources. Validation on the application processor is the last step before phone makers can ship the memory.
Samsung's own figures for LPDDR6 put the bandwidth gain at up to 45% over LPDDR5X and power efficiency at up to 21% better. Both are the company's numbers. The paper quotes a Samsung vice-president saying it would supply the memory in time to match customers' commercialisation schedules.
Two forms of the bandwidth claim are in circulation. Seoul Economic Daily reports Samsung supporting up to 125 gigabits per second. Other accounts of the same validation give 114 gigabytes per second. The units differ by a factor of eight and no account reconciles them, so the throughput figure remains unsettled.
Neither Samsung nor Qualcomm has named a phone. The report says commercialisation is within reach and that expansion is expected to start next year. Coverage has linked the part to Samsung's next Galaxy flagship, but the validation notice itself does not mention a handset.
Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 this week and said its top chip can run a 30-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model on the device. Running a model of that size locally depends on how much memory the phone carries and how fast it can be read.
