Shopify opens Shop Pay checkout to Meta's Muse agent
Tobi Lutke said the arrangement covers every Shopify store, two days after Amazon blocked the same agent from shopping on its own site.
Shopify will let Meta's Muse agent complete purchases with Shop Pay across all Shopify stores, chief executive Tobi Lutke said on Monday in a post relayed by the market account StockMKTNewz. Meta's own AI lead said the same thing minutes later.
Alexandr Wang, who leads Meta's AI work, said Muse is "partnering deeply" with Shopify to give its users access to a wide range of products. Neither post gave a start date, and neither said what either company is paid. Kalshi_Finance and StockSavvyShay reported the arrangement in the same terms.
Amazon moved the other way two days earlier, blocking Muse from shopping on Amazon.com on behalf of its users, TechCrunch reported. Shopify and Amazon have each acted without explaining the commercial terms behind the decision, and neither has said whether the other's approach affected it.
The account firstadopter set out one reading of the split, writing that Shopify does not have a high-margin advertising business to protect. That is a characterisation by an outside account rather than a statement from either company, and it may not be the whole of either decision.
Meta shares rose more than 10 percent on Monday, their best day in more than a year, according to the market accounts wallstengine and DeItaone. Neither account separated the effect of the Shopify arrangement from Muse's launch two weeks ago.
