Abbott halts Texas data centre permits until ERCOT grid audit ends

Governor Greg Abbott has halted all state-issued permits for data centres in Texas until an audit of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas grid is complete, the Reuters legal account said on Monday. CNBC posted the same development later the same evening.
CNBC described the halt as coming weeks after Abbott issued a moratorium, which places Monday's order in a sequence rather than on its own. The Polymarket Money account posted a shorter version, saying new data centre projects cannot move forward until a statewide grid audit is complete.
The three accounts differ on scope. Reuters described permits the state itself issues. Polymarket Money described a halt on new projects. Neither wording makes clear whether the order reaches local permits, or whether projects that already hold one may proceed while the audit runs.
None of the accounts gives a duration for the audit, a count of the projects affected, or the terms of the earlier moratorium. Abbott's own order has not been read for this story, and the governor's office is not quoted in any of the three posts.
